The engagement party was an adventure in itself. Finding the right time to throw the party was a mission. First off, my mom and I had a disagreement on who to invite to the engagement party and how it would be. After the constant back and forth we agreed there would be two engagement parties, one hosted by my mom and one hosted by me. The one hosted by my mom would be for the family and close family friends, while the one hosted by me would be for family and all my friends.

Engagement Party hosted by Mom:
My mom decided to have the party at her house in early August 2004. Close family and friends attended, and my dad did a speech announcing my engagement to Elliot. One of my mom’s relatives, Marielena Solis, did a beautiful fondant cake for the event, and my mom cooked some good food (Mashed Potatos, Ribs, Beef in Sauce, Salad). My brother Wendell, soon to be a Chef, cooked a chicken salad that everyone loved. This party felt like a wedding. I even got gifts! It was all very nice, we got to practice cutting a cake together.

Engagement Party hosted by Elliot and Lili:
Our engagement party was an adverture in itself. Let’s just say that nature was playing games with us, so it was difficult to find the right day.

First of all, I wanted this party to be very special and cute. For those of you that know me, you know that I love theme parties. But what theme could be cute and sassy and at the same time romantic? Well, a friend at school suggested I think of the place I want to go for my honeymoon, and make that the theme. The first thing that came to my mind was PARIS, the city of love. All these cute ideas started flowing — the pink and black colors, the french music, the french food, the U La La’s. I started planning right away, and asking all my friends for more ideas.

We had planned for the party to be September 4th. I did these cute invitations with a phrase in French and a Mime Cartoon. I was so excited, unfortunately nature decided to play a game on us and a Hurricane was coming that weekend. I had to postpone the party for the following weekend, September 11th. I sent this reschedule invitations that said, “Sacre Blue” that basically meant “Unfortunately”. I still used the Mime cartoon on those. But nature still didn’t want us to have the party, another hurricane came our way on September 11th, so I had to cancel the party. We kept postponing the party because there was a hurricane every weekend that month. Finally Elliot and I decided to postpone the party till November, when hurricane season was over.

My party ended up being November 13th, 2004. Everything happens for a reason, because now some close family from Honduras had moved to Miami and I had all my cousins here to celebrate. Even my friend Alison, that had already moved to California, was down in Miami that weekend. I finally had my french engagement party, with plenty of fruit and cheeses, and some great food my mom made. And my aunt Ana made a delicious cake with a French Flag.

My fiesta termino siendo en Noviembre 13, 2004.
